Discrete Differential Preamp V1.0


We wanted to back our DAC and AMP’s up by a good quality Preamp. It uses some of the circuit design implemented in the Discrete Output shield for the DAC and the TSSA V4 as this circuit has proven to give an very balanced sound stage that matches the best design. The discrete amp stages used in the preamp is not very advanced. It is a blend of JFET input stage, single-ended gain stages that runs in class A. What makes the stages good is the circuit layout, how the stages are electrical decoupled from each other. The attenuator is based on a R2R attenuator backed up by discrete opamp stage. The R2R DAC we use for the attenuator is one of the best on the market. Only way to surpass it, is to build an discrete and costly R2R attenuator.

The servo is an discrete design as well.

The output stage is power full enough to drive Headphones like B&W P7.
